Amoreena Guerrero (she/her)
Youth Grow Program Manager, Growing Gardens
Education Regional Hub Coordinator
Portland Metro Region
I got involved with school garden work in the spring of 2002 when I had the opportunity to take a course at University of Oregon called "School Gardens" it was taught by Emily Dietzman who was a grad student at the time and also headed up School Garden Project of Lane Country which was just becoming an educational nonprofit in Lane County. During the course I had the opportunity to volunteer with the after school garden club at River Road/El Camino del Rio Elementary and instantly fell in love with garden education! I knew from that moment that I wanted to support getting gardens in all schools and support teachers to utilize those spaces to the benefit of children!
Youth Grow is committed to providing access to farm to school and school garden resources and opportunities to school sites throughout Portland and the broader metropolitan area. We also offer limited, free school garden design consultations, program consultations and occasional webinars and network gatherings.
